I have walked in your shoes.
My own experience with educational advocacy began when my son was in preschool. It was there that I first felt all the pressures and challenges of navigating the special education system. Understanding the complex eligibility process, special education regulations, and parental rights was overwhelming. I also felt at a distinct disadvantage during every IEP team meeting. Seeking a community of similar parents, I joined my town’s Special Education Parents Advisory Council (SEPAC). It was there I recognized I wasn’t alone in feeling defeated and isolated by this process. We were all struggling to find our way and advocate for the needs of our children.
This sparked a passion in me to help other families who were struggling with the same issues. I began volunteering with local organizations, attending workshops, and immersing myself in the legal and educational frameworks surrounding special education. Over time, I developed a deep understanding of the rights and services available to students with disabilities. I realized that my voice could make a real difference, and I pursued the path of becoming an advocate. I have a passion for helping other parents get the services and support that their children need and sharing my knowledge so that they feel confident in their own advocacy journey.
